Manya Naranzogt: Finding Nostalgia

“Over the past year, I've rekindled my love affair with red and shadowy blacks. Red is such a beautiful color that conveys passion and boldness but when swathed in black the pair create a mysterious aura. I wanted to use this moody palette to convey nostalgia, a subject often reserved for grays and blue tones. Nostalgia is a yearning for happy past memories in your life, but sometimes we yearn for the bad moments just as much. My past year has been filled with anger, upset, and love and the nostalgia I hold in reverence to it is neither passive nor light.”

Manya is an interdisciplinary artist that focuses on photography, painting, and sculpture centered on themes of nostalgia and security. As a child, they learned everything about photography from their father who shoots landscape photography in the Mongolian wilderness. Manya often focuses on portraiture or architecture to reflect the inner workings of a subject's psyche and the space they inhabit. At the moment they are developing their own stance on the art world, media platforms, and the power dynamics inherent within them. You can find Manya at https://manyanaranzogt.weebly.com.
