imminent break
By Natalie Anderson
Old Poem
Tender as fruit bud fuzz
late one long evening,
as coyote’s howl wooed off the cat’s meow
the ocean churned
tumultuous
behind a sea of smiles.
And Into Existence
To humble and mend
I would reach you by the
bend
Laying down a hand
to form a bridge
over this stream,
once a marsh—
dammed out of stillness.
Sutro Baths
Like waterbird landing
breaking through solvent surface,
we ease back into our element
with eyes gratitude-glazed
by time laid out fading.
We sense the depths of the waters holding our weight
as we bask in heliocentric circuitry
and drink freely
from the well.
